1993

1993 saw the 1st team finish 3rd out of 5 teams in the Manchester League Division1, but slip to 6th out 6 teams in the British League North. It was a different story at junior level, as our recruitment and development paid off, to begin a period of domination in the North at junior level. We won the Manchester League Division 2 (out of 5 teams),
British League North u-12 (out of 5 teams) and u-15 Leagues (out of 3 teams). We finished 5th out of 6 teams in the British League North Combination League, regularly fielding genuine junior line-ups against more experienced teams. Danny Hughes became our first champion when he won the Northern u-12 Individual Final. Steve Mills was top scorer with 476 points, whilst Simon Plows topped the race averages, on 3.35.

A highlight was a weekend trip to Holland in October. We hired and filled a 50 seater coach for the trip, with our riders and ones from other UK clubs, to provide a full weekend’s racing at the Almere track, in Flevoland. Two decades earlier, the track location had been the sea bed, before land reclamation made an island, followed by the building of a new
town to transform the place.
