Sun 27th April Astley & Tyldesley v Sheffield.  Div 1, 2 and 3 Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley welcomed Sheffield in a North & Scotland League fixture at Gin Pit on Sunday. On a warm, sunny day, the track required regular watering to keep the dust down and raceable. Both sides had riders missing, but Sheffield had appropriate replacements, whereas A&T didn't.

Defending Division 1 champions Sheffield rode to a convincing victory. The Stars won five of the opening six heats by a maximum score. A&T claimed inside grids and this stemmed the tide, before Sheffield took five maximum heat wins in the last seven races. For Sheffield, Kieran Hale raced to a maximum score and clocked the fastest time of the match, 44.00 seconds, in heat 17. He received solid support from all his eight team mates, with Matt Parrott also unbeaten. In contrast, A&T could only field five riders, and it was left to John White to lead the charge. He lost only to Hale in heat 3, and incurred a one point deduction for a start infringement in heat 7.

In the Division 1 Match Race, the challenger Kieran Hale won the toss and took the lead from grid 2. However, a fine ride by the holder, John White, saw him come through on the third lap to take the race win and successfully defend the title.

It was a similar story in the Division 2 match, as defending champions Sheffield raced to an emphatic victory. A&T were no match for a solid scoring Sheffield team, but had the rider of the match in Frank White, who raced to a 20 points maximum score. Frank's time of 43.63 seconds in heat 3 was the fastest time of the day. Oscar Belt was in the thick of the action, but had the misfortune to take three falls.

In the Division 3 match, it was the turn of the defending champions, Astley & Tyldesley, to record an emphatic win. The two u-13 riders were combined with the four u-10 riders, in one match, with scores subsequently adjusted. Sheffield's Lincoln Ackroyd raced unbeaten, as did A&T's u-10 rider Alex Lawless, after points adjustment.
