Many congratulations to A&T's Emily Burgess on winning the British Women's title for the third time at Southampton on Monday afternoon. Emily took a 2nd place in her opening race, before reeling off four race wins to finish on 19 points. Sheffield's pair of Lizzie Rigley and Lacey Ackroyd took 2nd and 3rd places to make it a Northern 1-2-3. Emily's success was all the more remarkable, considering that she sustained a broken collar bone just eight weeks previously, whilst racing at Bury. This meant little track time whilst she recovered from the injury, so it's a testimony to her recovery plan, determination, confidence and ability, along with support from family, coaches and medical staff, that she was able to overcome such a disadvantage and take the title. Emily has now equalled Macie Schmidt's record of three British Women's Individual titles. |
