Astley & Tyldesley v Hull |
Astley & Tyldesley | |
Astley & Tyldesley welcomed Hull to Gin Pit for a full programme of North & Scotland League racing on Sunday. An excellent afternoon's racing took place, with all three matches being closely contested and ridden in a great spirit. Riders enjoyed racing on a damp grippy track, as the forecast rain held off. A&T took the victory in the Division 1 match, 94-85. After a shared opening heat, A&T took a 7-3 in heat 2, from the Belt/ Norman pairing over Bennett and Tomkinson, and were never headed afterwards. For A&T John White lost only once, when passed by Jack Lister in heat 15, with Emily Burgess taking three race wins. Lister and Noah Lyon each won four of their six races for Hull, but A&T were slightly stronger lower down the order and this proved to be decisive. In the Division 1 Match Race, the challenger Noah Lyon won the toss and went off grid 2. A fast start from grid 4 by the holder, John White, saw him take the win, after Lyon fell at the first bend and withdrew. Hull rode to victory in a closely contested Division 2 match, 78-72. A&T took three 7-3 heat wins, but Hull had the upper hand throughout the match. Hull's Noah Lyon raced to a 20 points maximum score, with solid support throughout. For A&T, Emily Burgess and Steve Harris lost only to Lyon, but the inclusion of three Division 3 riders was a big ask for those young riders at this level. In the Division 2 Match Race, the holder Steve Harris won the toss and went off grid 2. A storming gate by Noah Lyon saw him take the lead to win. with Harris pulling out on the first lap.
