Sun 24th March Bury v Astley & Tyldesley Bury

Astley & Tyldesley made the short trip to Bury for a North & Scotland League fixture, on Sunday. The slippery track made conditions challenging for riders, particularly in a hard fought Division 1 match.

In the Division 1 match, A&T started brightly against the defending Division 1 champions, trailing by just one point after heat 6. In the following race, John White could consider himself unfortunate to be excluded, after an incident packed two laps, where all riders took to the grass on several occasions. Bury took a 7-2 from Danny Taylor and Ben Higham in the re-run over Josh Pilkington. Bury followed this up with a 6-4 and a 7-3, to open up a 12 points lead, and were never in trouble after that. A&T claimed a choice of grids from heat 12 onwards, but to no effect, as Bury went on to run out 101-77 winners.

John White top scored for A&T, with four race wins, including two over Bury's Reece Pollitt. His best support came from Devon Campbell and Terry Norman. For a solid scoring Bury team, Pollitt dropped two points to White, with good support throughout.

North & Scotland League Division 1 result:

Bury 101 Astley & Tyldesley 77
Bury: Reece Pollitt 21 (1), Tom Dunphy 18, Danny Taylor 17 (1), Mike Baldock 16 (2), Eryk Motala 14 (2), Ben Higham 6 (1), Mark Radford 6, Owen Simcock 3 (1).
A&T: John White 18 (1), Devon Campbell 15 (1), Terry Norman 13 (1), Steve Harris 11 (1), Frank White 10 (1), Oscar Belt 7, Josh Pilkington 3.

Referee - Harry Radford.

The Division 2 match should have been a comfortable win for a six rider A&T team over a Bury team, who could only muster four riders. However, Nahom Tumizghy went home before the start of the match and Josh Pilkington withdrew from the match and went to hospital after a fall in heat 6, so the match became 4 v 4.

The scores were close for the first six races, standing at 27-27 after heat 6, before A&T started to edge ahead, to open up a 6 points lead after heat 12. The deciding race in the match was heat 13, as Bury raced into a 6-4 position, before Frank White passed Tom Dunphy to take the race win, with Levi Edwards overtaking Owen Simcock for third place. Mark Radford won heat 14 to reduce A&T's lead to 4 points. In the last heat, Steve Harris was content to follow Tom Dunphy for 2nd place, with Oscar Belt beating Bobby Dunphy for 3rd place, for shared race points and a narrow A&T win, 64-60.

For A&T, Frank White rode to a superb 20 points maximum score, with Steve Harris losing twice to Tom Dunphy. For Bury, Tom lost only to Frank in the decisive heat 13 race.
