Sun 7th April Astley & Tyldesley v Heckmondwike Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley staged a full programme of racing at Gin Pit on Sunday. Riders faced variable weather conditions during the afternoon, with rain showers, strong winds and sunshine, to contend with! Fortunately, the Gin Pit track held up well throughout.

A&T and Heckmondwike fought out a close battle in the North & Scotland League Division 2 match. The scores were level at the interval, 39-39, as race exclusions for Levi Edwards and Nahom Tumizghy cancelled out a first race 6-4 win by Steve Harris and Josh Pilkington. In complete contrast, A&T took heat wins in five of the next six races, as Heckmondwike's veteran riders tired, to clinch the match points, with one race to go. Heckmondwike took a consolation 7-2 in the last race, to make the final score 76-70, in A&T's favour.

Duncan Whalley raced unbeaten for A&T, with Emily Burgess and Steve Harris losing only to Heckmondwike's two best riders, Darren Kent and Dan Green. Josh Pilkington's contribution was vital to A&T's win.
