Sun 20th August Heckmondwike v Astley & Tyldesley Heckmondwike

Astley & Tyldesley pulled off an impressive win at Heckmondwike on Sunday, to keep their Northern Alliance League title hopes very much alive.

The opening races were tightly fought, before A & T took advantage of exclusions to James Lovell (gate) and Jacek Szlacketka (forcing Tomasz Wlodarczyk off the track) and a fall to Szymon Swardiski to open up a 7 points lead after heat 7. This was extended to a commanding 11 points lead at the interval after Darren Kent experienced machine problems. Some disciplined racing saw A & T extend the lead in the second half to run out impressive 81-65 winners, with the only blip being an exclusion to Chris Finnigan in heat 13.

Five of the Heckmondwike team won races, but none could match the consistency of A & T's Polish Internationals, with Tomasz Wlodarczyk racing unbeaten and Darek Kurkowski beaten just once by Kent. The rest of the team weighed in with good solid scores, to keep their opponents at bay throughout the match. A & T require a win in their final Northern Alliance League match, away to Stockport, to secure the title.
