Sun 13th August Northern Fours -  Round 6 Sheffield

Astley & Tyldesley moved into top place in the Northern Fours League with a convincing win at Sheffield on Sunday. Conditions were heavy and slippery on a cold and wet day. Several times A & T Polish riders slipped at the starts, but showed their strength by regularly coming through the field to take impressive race wins. A & T held a comfortable 6 points lead over Hull at the interval, but were pegged back to 2 points in controversial circumstances when the referee excluded A & T's Tomasz Szwajorek in heat 9. This was after he withheld a strong challenge from Hull's Andy Angell, who fell theatrically and succeeded in getting his opponent excluded. However, this was merely a blip and A & T re-established their superiority with an emphatic 8 points win, as Tomasz Wlodarczyk raced unbeaten. Darek Kurkowski was impressive on his new bike, losing just once to Darren Kent in heat 5. With nearest rivals Sheffield and Stoke drawing in the other match, this puts A & T half a point clear at the top of the table with two rounds remaining.
