Sun 2nd July Astley & Tyldesley v Stoke Astley & Tyldesley

Astley & Tyldesley took on Stoke in a vital Midlands/North League Division 1 match at a sweltering Gin Pit on Sunday afternoon. Stoke held a two points lead after four races, but A & T responded with three maximum heat wins to go in at the interval with a commanding nine points lead. Stoke fought back hard, and aided by some mistakes from A & T, reduced the deficit to two points with four races to go. A & T took first and second places in the next race, and played safe in the remaining races to record a 90-87 win.

Tomasz Wlodarczyk was in great form for A & T, losing only to Polish Champion Marcin Szymanski, who raced unbeaten, in heat 3. Both teams pulled out a mix of great riding and mistakes, in a hard fought match that was ridden in a great spirit. This was a vital win by A & T as it keeps them firmly in contention for a place in the Midlands/North League play-offs.
