Astley & Tyldesley took on Sheffield in the Northern Junior Cup Final. It was fitting that cycle speedway's only two Go-Ride clubs should meet in a junior cup final. An older and more experienced Sheffield team got off to a flyer, taking a 10 points lead after 3 races. But A & T's youngsters battled gamely and kept themselves in contention throughout the match, giving a good account of themselves, with captain Warren Mee leading the way with two race wins. The result was never in doubt after the opening blitz from a Sheffield team, warmed up from their morning Semi-Final 85-64 win over Bury. Jono Birks raced to a fine maximum for the Stars, with Simon Gamble losing only to Joe Twiss, and Robert Hudson losing only to a gate exclusion.
