Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare / CTA Direct cycle speedway team travelled to West Yorkshire for a Northern League match at Heckmondwike on Sunday. Two 7-3s and a 6-4 in the opening four heats put Team Green 10 points ahead, and the visitors gradually extended their lead throughout the match to run out convincing 85 - 65 winners. Despite the scoreline, there was plenty of good racing in a hard fought but sporting match.
Przemek Binkowski raced unbeaten for A & T, with fellow Pole Pawel Kozlowski losing only to Heckmondwike's top rider James Carter in heat 5. Young Warren Mee was most impressive on his first team debut for A & T, with some good passing and fast riding, with the whole team riding well in not suffering a single heat defeat. Patrick Beacock replaced the holidaying Darren Kent and scored well for the home team, along with impressive newcomer Gary Krelle.
